- Carburettor or fuel injection tuned for altitude
- Spare tube, puncture kit, tool set
Packing Checklist
- Riding jacket, gloves, knee guards, thermals
- Sunglasses, sunscreen, lip balm

Recommended Bikes and Setup
Royal Enfield Himalayan, Classic 350 and KTM Adventure models are the common choices. Fit crash guards, a sturdy luggage rack and tubeless or heavy-duty tyres. Get the fuel system tuned for altitude before you start.
Water Crossings and Rough Patches
Streams near Gata Loops, Pang and Sarchu run higher in the afternoon as glaciers melt. Cross in the morning, in first gear, with steady throttle and eyes on the line of the vehicle ahead.
Riding Safety Rules
- Ride in a group and keep a backup vehicle if possible
- Stop every 90 minutes for water and a short walk
- Never ride at night or in snowfall
- Carry a basic medical kit and emergency contacts
Fuel and Repair Points
Tandi is the last fuel pump before Karu, about 365 km away. Fill your tank, carry 5 to 10 litres of spare fuel and keep a puncture kit handy. Mechanics are limited between Keylong and Upshi.
